Connects City Center to International Airport in Record Time

The recently launched metro line in Istanbul, connecting the city center with its new international airport, has been dubbed the quickest in Europe. Trains will reach speeds of up to 120 km/h on this route. For the first month of operation, riding on the metro line, meant to transport 800,000 passengers daily, will be gratis.

As per the statement of the Turkish Minister of Transport, Adil Karaismailoğlu, the journey from the "Kagithane" station to the airport via the 34-kilometer branch line will take roughly 24 minutes. The closest transfer station, providing access to various parts of Istanbul, is just 12 minutes away. The minister stated that the total length of the line, with the addition of new stations, will be 69 km and the overall length of Istanbul's metro network will exceed 380 km. He said, "We aim to cover the entire European part of Istanbul with our metro system by the end of this year." In the future, the metro line will also be integrated with a high-speed railway line connecting to Ankara and other cities in Asia.

The new metro line couldn't have come at a better time. Istanbul Airport, previously known as Ataturk, has already become one of the busiest airports in Europe. Upon completion in 2025, the Istanbul International Airport is slated to have 6 runways and serve up to 150 million travelers annually.
